I hate myself for procrastinating, even up to this point of time in life when i am supposed to be in the phase of maturing into a growing adult and learn how to prioritise my plans wisely. I had a long weekend break- booked out, surprisingly, on Friday night kudos to Sergeant Darren's kind heartedness and benevolence, for the Hwachong Awards Day Ceremony on Saturday before I booked in only tonight, a Tuesday night, due to off-in-lieu for NDP CR3. (So perhaps for once, i can proudly say that SAF do show signs of compassion for his men, and at least, do keep its words of repaying the hours we have slogged hard for our nation :D ) But yet throughout the span of these 4 days, I have once again dragged a much-needed reflective post only to the last few hours before i booked back into camp. Argh really hate myself for this sluggish behaviour that i really need to eradicate to achieve greater things in life.
Many things have happened over the last few weeks, and after perusing through the pretty short entries i have penned over the last few weeks, i realised that i have been missing quite a couple of details that have summed up my life, as a soldier as well as a civilian, thus far.
I shall spend a 5mins to talk about army life thus far after my trade course POP.
I have to admit that time really flies, and it has already been 1 month into life as a armour infantry trooper, at least officially in terms of the vocation. 4 weeks of training has passed and i have already went to 2 fieldcamps- one infantry section fieldcamp and a armour infantry fieldcamp, with our m113 ultra armour vehicle. Pleasantly, it turned out not to be as tough as BMT days and these outfield trainings were mainly focused on fire movements and attempting simulated missions rather than the hours of tekaning sessions i had back in tekong.
Another highlight was also the ATP live range shoot, running 300m down the chamber with my SAW and firing over 100+ live rounds in the day and night. And guess what? I couldn't believe it, but I AM A MARKSMAN!! Wohoo, its quite a astonishing accomplishment given that i have literally flunked all the SAF 'exams' and was previously a bobo shooter in BTP- re-shooting the most number of times, and yet still fail to reach the marksman score, though almost 80% of the company got it. Haha, so it was quite a pleasurable week in the range as I earned myself the honour of stitching the marksman badge on my No.4 uniform, as well $200 monetary incentive packaged together, in courtesy of SAF.
As a civilian, I have catched up quite a fair bit with a number of people throughout this long break, though missing quite a number of meet-ups such as a chill-out session with Eric, my dear bro who has made it to SCS, the SAFRA session with Samuel Cheng, my cherished RJC mate in BMT as well as the send-off for CHAIPING... Haha, i hereby make my sincerest apologies to my dear friend, Cassadara Sim Chai Ping, for not appearing in Terminal 1 Airport due to my own negligence and failure to respond to my alarm clock. Really so sorry but i was shagged out after dozing off at 3am on Sunday morning, and was deprived of any energy to crawl out of my bed to catch the first train to Changi. So sorry about it, and wish you all the best for your future endeavours in mass communication, and i am confident that you are able to excel in the field that you are wholly passionate in. Good luck and hope you enjoy the dinner and catch-up session :D
Apart from that, i also managed to catch 2 movies- The Blood Pledge (f*** up movie) and Inception (mind-boggling to the max, and was attempting to be the director, explaining the mystery behind every scene.. haha). I also went for 2 medical appointments, some light shopping for books and military equipments.
So to sum it up, it was a pretty eventful breakaway from the clutches of national service and will look forward to more weekends to catch up with friends that have made an imprint in my life!:)
And i realise that Singaporeans are really free outside in the civilian world LOL!
** There were many things that is cramping my mind and i really wish that i have the luxury of time to pen it all down... all the observations and reflections i have processed through as I trudged the streets of Singapore over the past few days. Perhaps another time ba...
